Healing Way Research is writing prevention newsletters for healthcare practicioners and businesses. A recent sample for a Novato physician follows:THE HEALTHY BALANCE WELLNESS & MEDICAL CENTER NEWSLETTER
165 Rowland Way, Suite 308
Novato, CA
(415) 209-6180We are an integrative health center located in the Novato Community Hospital Medical Office Building. Our practicioners combine western medicine with alternative therapies to provide total healthcare for body, mind and spirit.
It’s been proven that diet and lifestyle play major roles in preventing illness So we have created this community newsletter with suggestions for stress reduction, nutrition and anti-aging skin care.
Andrew Weil, a graduate of Harvard Medical School, best-selling author and world-renowned pioneer in the field of Integrative Medicine, recommends meditation and deep breathing to combat stress.
"One of the fastest and most effective stress-relievers is the "4-7-8 breath." Place the tip of your tongue against the bony ridge by your upper front teeth. Breathe in through your nose for 4 counts. Hold your breath for 7 counts. Exhale through your mouth (making a whooshing sound) for 8 counts. Repeat this cycle 4 times, twice a day. Ahhhh." (Balance magazine, July/Aug., 2002)
Other great stress busters include:
Creativity. Join a writing group or call a friend and make collages together. You don’t need experience, just a desire for playtime, for creating. The simple act of creating can whisk worries away..
Walk on the beach. Soothing sounds of ocean waves, negative ions combined with sun, pulling muscles through the sand, will relax your body and calm your spirit.
Humor. Rent some funny videos and laugh for hours. There’s nothing like laughter to put our lives in perspective.
Reduce your clutter. Tackle one small project like cleaning our your wardrobe or recycling magazines. Reducing clutter, getting organized, calms the mind and creates a feeling of peace.
Schedule weekly time for yourself. In this hectic world it’s easy to forget ourselves. Schedule a few hours twice a week to kick back. Allow time to reflect, take a bubble bath, dig in the garden or attend a lecture.
"Growing old gracefully" conjures up images of natural beauty; images of women becoming more authentic, their talents and inner beauty finally emerging. Pictures of graying hair and faces filled with laugh lines come to mind.
It’s normal to resist the aging process, especially when it comes to appearance. And happily, we can do something to reduce wrinkles, crow’s feet, even laugh lines. "Recent research using topical anti-inflammatory such as alpha lipoic acid, DMAE and Vitamin C Ester indicate that both wrinkling and sagging of the face can be corrected. Topical DMAE causes immediate increase in the appearance of skin tone and with continued use significantly lifts and contours the sagging face. It is especially important to apply liberally and often to the chin area, jaw line and neck….When combined with either alpha lipoic acid or Vitamin C Ester surface defects such as fine lines, large p ores, discoloration as well as dark circles and puffiness under the eyes are significantly improved", according to Dr. Nicolas Perricone, a noted anti-aging expert.
Our wellness center specializes in anti-aging skin-care techniques such as Perricone’s, the Parisian peel medical microdermabrasion and laser skin rejuvenation. Call us for a consultation.
Perricone believes that "inflammation is the basis of a lot of disease." During a recent public television lecture he said that exercise is anti-inflammatory. It promotes good circulation, secretes growth hormones and gets rid of toxins.
He also recommends certain foods; egg whites, salmon, melons, berries, pears, apples, white turkey, olive oil, tofu, and veggies. Remember to drink lots of purified water. All these ingredients promote the anti-aging process. For further information on anti-aging visit The Antiaging Center.
Dr. Laura Darby, the center’s director, attended medical school at the University of Texas where she also found time to become fluent in Spanish. Laura has extensive training in both Internal Medicine and Occupational Medicine, but has chosen to focus on Preventive Medicine. She believes in preventing illness rather than treating disease. This involves patient education, nutritional medicine and healthful lifestyle changes.
As part of our commitment to preventive health we will be offering health screenings for blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis and cholesterol on May 3rd, June 7th and June 28th from 9:00 a.m. - noon at The Healthy Balance Wellness & Medical Center. Call (415) 209-6180 to schedule an appointment.
